A family’s story
Santiago’s Story
Santiago was born on January 12, 2021. Our pregnancy was normal and free of complications. However, at the time of his birth, we discovered that Santiago had VACTERL association, a rare condition involving a combination of congenital birth defects. He underwent approximately 13 surgeries and spent more than a month in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
But that is not who Santiago is. He is not defined by his medical condition or the challenges he has faced. He was fearfully and wonderfully made in his mother’s womb, created with purpose by our loving God. We believe that God has a beautiful plan for his life and that His promises are faithful and true.
We are incredibly grateful to our Lord for every miracle He has performed in Santiago’s life. Each surgery brought challenges, uncertainty, and moments that tested our faith. Yet, through it all, God remained faithful. He carried us through every difficult moment and continually reminded us of His presence, goodness, and unfailing love.
Our purpose in sharing this testimony is not to focus on how difficult the beginning of Santiago’s life was or to draw attention to his medical condition. Rather, it is to testify to the everlasting love, infinite wisdom, and faithful hand of God at work in our lives. His story is a reminder that even when we cannot understand the circumstances before us, God is still working in ways greater than we can imagine.
Today, Santiago is thriving, growing, and bringing so much joy to our lives. We know that God has a purpose for him, and it is beautiful to see his love for the Lord grow. His life is a testimony to God’s goodness, and we look forward to seeing all that the Lord has planned for him.
We are especially grateful to Oceans Academy for loving Santiago, caring for him, and helping nurture his faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through this school, he has learned so much—not only about how deeply God loves him, but also about how that love is reflected through the kindness, compassion, and care of others.
Thank you, Oceans Academy, for being part of Santiago’s journey and for helping him grow in both knowledge and faith. Your love and dedication have made a meaningful difference in his life and in our family’s hearts. We pray that God continues to bless the school, staff, and every child whose life you have the privilege of touching.
